The characteristics of reciprocating internal combustion engine:

The capacity of a unit is small(among 100kw-4000kw), and it is suitable to establish small power station.The generating efficiency is high(among 32%~40%) The structure is compact,the weight is light, the volume is small. It is also convenient to move, it’s flexible to establish a plant, and the period is short.Gas needn’t pressurize(it can be used to generate electricity directly if the pressure is not below 1.5kPa) It can be operated in single unit or more than one unit. It also can adjust capacity of power station conveniently according to the change of gas’s amount.Start and stop are fast, operation and maintenance is simple, few operation maintenance personnel, convenient maintenance.The overhaul period is about 20,000 hours.The investment of installed capacity per kw is 2,500~3000yuan.

Reciprocating internal combustion engine can adjust measures to local condition,build station on the site, generate electricity on the site according to the physical truth of each gas source’s small volume dose and it is the first choice equipment by using dispersed gas energy to generate electricity distributedly.

Shanxi coke chemical co., LTD used a 2000kw gas turbine to generate, but the gas turbine had a high quality requirement, the efficiency is low, and it needed many maintainers. So the failure rate is high, and it need to be repaired frequently. The actual use of gas turbine is bad. In 2003,1, the company used 7 sets of 500kw reciprocating gas generator set to establish a power station. Gas turbine overcome the above shortcomings and it has a good effect.

The amount of distributed power station using reciprocating internal combustion engine has reached more than 100 so far, and it covers the area of coal bed gas, coke oven gas, smelting exhaust, marsh gas and straw gas.
