Diatomaceous earth is a natural, abrasive powder that’s made of ground-up fossils. It controls pests by cracking open their joints and by rubbing holes through their outer shells. The bugs die quickly, since the holes let air in and let out moisture from the insects’ bodies, but it is safe to use around people and pets, with just a couple of simple precautions. You can use plain diatomaceous earth; you don’t need to combine poisons with it.

Introductions for use

DElite product is licensed to be used in for pest control in agriculture. It can be applied as a dry dust, or mixed with water at the rate of 2 oz. per quart and sprayed as a liquid.

1. For agricultural pesticides

Dry Application

The goal is to get coverage over the entire plant, especially under the leaves. For young plants, as little as two pounds per acre may be adequate. For larger plants, five lb/acre is probably sufficient. With extra growth, it might be necessary to increase the amount. An examination of the leaves will tell if the leaf bottom is covered.

Applicator

A good dust applicator is essential, and should be equipped with electronic nozzles, which put a negative charge on the dust. The plant being positive, attracts the dust making for a better coverage even ion leaf bottom.

Wet Application

The same rates per acre apply when using as a wettable powder. Adding water is merely a means of using existing spray equipment.

Mixing Instructions

Minimum: 1 lb. to 2 gals. water

Maximum: 1 lb. to 25 gals. water

2. For household insecticide

Put on a breathing mask and goggles.Sprinkle a light layer of the powder over any indoor areas that you suspect of having pests such as fleas and ticks.Dust outside areas that hide pests, especially spots where your pet likes to rest, since such places can be havens for fleas.Apply diatomaceous earth to any other areas in your home that may be hiding pests, including crawl spaces, under porches, in the space between walls and in the attic.Vacuum clean the house a few days after you apply the diatomaceous earth.
