Japanese Paper

Japanese Paper (Washi) is a style of paper that was first made in Japan. Washi generally is tougher than ordinary paper and is used in many traditional arts. Originally the term Washi referred to Japanese handmade paper produced in a traditional manner. Nowadays, Washi is popular and well known all over the world.

Item 1704:

Origami paper (Chiyogami Washi). Origami paper is the traditional Japanese art of paper folding. It weighs slightly less than copy paper. Chiyogami is a specific word developed to describe the graphic, repetitive designs applied to paper in the Edo period.

Various patterns and sizes are available.

Item 7099:

Memo Pads (Yuzen Washi). A standard memo pad with Yuzen cover design. The papers inside are in different colors. Yuzen patterns were originally designed for the textile industry in Kyoto but also applied to paper products. Yuzen designs were very elaborate, and included a lot of gold.

2 kinds of Yuzen patterns are available. Memo Pads Sizes: L 12cm (4.75 inches) / W 8cm (3.15 inches).

Item 11139:

Mt. Fuji Photo Frame (Tesuki Washi). A mountain Fuji photo frame made by Japanese paper. Tesuki Washi means handmade Japanese paper.

Color: red and blue. Size: L 35cm (13.78 inches) / W 25cm (9.85 inches)

Item 11254:

Paper Tapestry (Chigiri-e). A Japanese style paper tapestry using Japanese paper art `Chirgiri-e`. Chigiri-e is a Japanese art form in which torn paper is used to create images, but in a way that it looks like a water colour painting.

More than 10 different designs are available. Size: L 40cm (15.75 inches) / W 15cm (5.9 inches)

Item 11088:

Japanese paper-doll bookmark. A standard bookmark with a paper made Japanese-doll who wears kimono. This item is handmade by Washi as well.

3 kinds of designs are available. Size: L 14cm (5.5 inches) / W 6cm (2.36 inches)

Paper Roly-Poly Toy. Items are handmade by using Japanese paper. Japanese people use them for home decoration. On the pictures a small sample of the whole collection.
