Cooling Towers- The use of chlorine dioxide (ClO2) in cooling towers, closed loops and cooling water systems can greatly assist in the control of Legionella bacteria (the causative organism for Legionnaires' disease), algae, planktonic and sessile bacteria, biofilm and scale. This highly effective disinfectant can help maintain legislative compliance and system safety; and the efficiency of heat exchanger surfaces, reservoir intakes and ancillary equipment.

Wastewater Treatment-Chlorine dioxide (ClO2) is excellent for use in the treatment of industrial and process wastewater, odour control and pollutant oxidation. It safely oxidises phenols, cyanides, aldehydes, and mercaptans, reduced sulfur compounds and some pesticides. Chlorine dioxide is highly versatile and is useful in both wastewater treatment and scrubber systems.

With minimal contact time chlorine dioxide is highly effective against many pathogenic organisms including Escheri chia coli (ecoli) and other coliforms, Listeria, Staphylococcus aureus, Giardia cysts, algae, Salmonella, bacterial spores, Legionella, Tuberculosis, MRSA, VRE, amoebal cysts, and Cryptosporidium.
Chlorine dioxide is excellent for use in the treatment of industrial waters and community purification plants. It is also ideal for smaller water supplies such as water tanks and hospital water systems.

Chlorine Dioxide Features:
1. CIO2 is WHO,EPA-approved for both pretreatment and final disinfection of potable water. It eliminates such microorganisms as escherichia coli and other coliforms, listeria, staphylococcus aureus, giardia cysts, algae and salmonella.
2. CIO2 has consistently been shown to be the best molecule for eradicating the causative organism of legionnaires' disease.
3. CIO2 effectively removes hard water components i.e. iron and manganese, promotes flocculation, and aids in the removal of turbidity.
4. CIO2 does not combine with organics to form suspected carcinogens such as THM's or haloacetic acids (HAA's).
5. CIO2 provides a lasting residual throughout the distribution system to reduce or eliminate the subsequent growth of bacteria, viruses, and algae.

FAQ

What advantages does Chlorine Dioxide have over Chlorine?

- Chlorine Dioxide is a more powerful oxidant. It is therefore at least 2.6 times more powerful per ppm.

- Chlorine Dioxide acts only by oxidation. Chlorine will combine to produce harmful Chlorinated by-products, e.g. Chlorinated phenols and THM's. Many of these by-products are recognised carcinogens.

- Chlorine Dioxide does not hydrolyse to form an acid, and is therefore less corrosive in situ.

- The effectiveness of Chlorine is very pH dependent. Chlorine Dioxide is effective at all pH's below 12.

- Chlorine Dioxide has been found to be effective against complex organisms, e.g. cysts and protozoa. Chlorine is not.

- Chlorine Dioxide removes Biofilm. Chlorine does not.
